2. Is there a list of mineral substances?
1. What is a Mineral Substance?
A mineral substance (also termed "industrial mineral") is a substance classified as a mineral
under the current Mineral Tenure Act but was not included in the definition of mineral in the
former Mineral Act (RSBC 1979) and earlier versions. The Mineral Tenure Act (MTA) was
proclaimed on August 15, 1988. Prior to the MTA these mineral substances were administered
by the Land Act.
2. Is there a list of mineral substances?
No. However, this may include, but is not limited to, dolomite, clay, geyserite, limestone,
marble, pumice, or shale. Definitions in the Mineral Tenure Act are available in Section 1 of the
Mineral Tenure Act.
