CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS COORDINATOR
SOUTHEAST TEXAS FOOD BANK
JOB SUMMARY
Develops and strengthens new and existing programs of the Food Bank that provide services for
children. Current job priorities include:
1.
Coordination of the Backpack Program to provide take-home pre-prepared food to
disadvantaged school students for weekend use.
2.
Coordination of the School Tools Program to give teachers in economically
challenged schools access to school supplies for classroom use.
EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL COLLABORATIONS
1.
Coordinates service delivery with administration, staff and faculty at dozens of schools
that qualify for Food Bank’s children’s services.
2.
Collaborates with Food Bank’s administrative, program and warehouse staff, as
necessary.
3.
Supervised by the Food Bank’s Executive Director.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1.
Foster managed growth of the Backpack and School Tools Programs for the Food Bank.
2.
Create relationships with community groups, non-profit agencies, and civic entities to
help further the mission and visibility of the Backpack and School Tools Programs.
3.
Primary responsibilities for the Backpack Program:
a. determine eligibility and feasibility of participation by schools wishing to enroll in the
program
b. train school staff engaged with the program about program guidelines and protocols
c. identify the program coordinator at each school and develop his or her skills to
manage the program
d. schedule delivery of food to participating schools
e. establish frequent communication with participating schools, including monitoring of
backpack distributions
f. order food for program within applicable budgetary constraints
g. maintain communication and relationships with donors and funders of the program
h. gather and maintain required program statistics
i. broaden awareness of the program through appropriate community-wide
communications vehicles

Primary responsibilities for the School Tools Program:
a. determine eligibility and feasibility of participation by schools wishing to enroll in the
program
b. develop calendar for the days and hours of on-site operation
c. develop and maintain communication with appropriate contacts at participating
schools
d. obtain required program agreements and eligible teacher lists for participating schools
e. order supplies within applicable budgetary constraints
f. maintain communication and relationships with donors and funders of the program
g. maintain required communications with the national supplier
h. maintain School Tools room inventory
i. foster book and school supply distributions within budgetary constraints
j. manage School Tools volunteers
k. gather and maintain required program statistics
5.
Assist with office duties, as necessary, for example, answering phones, providing
customer service, etc.
6.
In the event of a disaster, return to work at the discretion of the Executive Director, to
assist with emergency food and beverage distribution duties undertaken by the Food
Bank in concert with emergency authorities, once reasonable accommodations have been
made for the employee’s safety.
7.
Assist with special projects as assigned.
Salary is dependent on experience. The Southeast Texas Food Bank is an equal
