News Release Graphtec Corporation Headquarters: 503-10 Shinano-cho, Totsuka-ku Yokohama 244-8503, Japan URL: http://www.graphtec.co.jp August 10, 2004 No.03-022 M/I/O (Measurement/Input/Output) Platform for the Digital Network Age 3D printer XD700 Providing further solid support to enable design-process Innovation and optimized design in manufacturing design environments that increasingly demand 3-D modeling. Graphtec will launch a new 3-D modeling system on March 8 to provide further solid support to enable design-process innovation and optimized design in manufacturing design environments that increasingly demand 3-D modeling. The 3-D modeling system can be used on an office desktop and is compatible with networks to allow direct modeling using 3-D CAD data. Until now, 3-D modeling systems were large and expensive, costing tens of millions of yen and requiring plant investment similar to that for production machinery. This product dramatically reduces size and cost, making the purchase of 3-D modeling systems comparable to the purchase of office equipment rather than that of production machinery. This product was developed by Solidimension in Israel, and goes on sale first in Japan through a tie-up with Graphtec, who will also be providing support in Japan. In response to the rapidly changing requirements of the 3-D market, Graphtec will be expanding its range of 3-D solutions for use in office environments under the brand “3D MIO Platform.” ■Main Features of “3D Printer XD700” Compact 3-D Modeling System - Network-compatible, allowing easy 3-D output of 3-D CAD data The “SD View” software bundled as standard with the XD700 imports STL-format data output from 3-D CAD to provide virtually automatic 3-D output. It also features a job management function for controlling output requests from multiple clients on the same network. Well-proven X-Y control technology is used to achieve a construction of unprecedented simplicity and compactness. Most settings are automatic, enabling the software to be used with ease soon after its installation. - Environmentally friendly film lamination enables use on an office desktop Previous 3-D modeling systems used UV-hardened resin or powder, making then unsuitable for office use and also requiring care for the storage of materials. This product uses PVC film, eliminating the need for special storage or operating conditions. The most significant drawback to film lamination was the need to remove unwanted areas, but this problem has been resolved through a newly developed peeling technique. - Maintainability and consistency levels on par with those of office equipment All consumable materials are supplied in roll or cartridge form, making maintenance comparable with that of an office printer. Even if material runs out while modeling is in progress, it can be replenished as easily as replacing printer paper or toner, allowing modeling to be resumed without delay.
