Augustus-Great Leader
By Jessica
The Last King
When the Roman Empire first started it was
ruled by kings. The last king was Tarquin the
Proud. Tarquin was very cruel and proud. One time
he murdered a king and he also made false
accusations against some senators, so he could steal
their lands. He made Romans obey him by bullying
them. Eventually he was thrown out of power by the
people in 590 B.C.
The First Emperor
Augustus was born on September 23rd o3 B.C.
Augustus was Julius Caesar’s great-nephew. He was
first emperor of Rome. Augustus’s real name that
was given to him when he was born was Gaius
Octavius, but when his great uncle died, Julius
Caesar, he took the name Gaius Julius Caesar
Octavian. Augustus was able to achieve power of
Rome.
Leadership Qualities
Augustus was a very good Roman leader. He
knew how to control the Romans very well so he was
very respected. He made people of higher power
adjust to losing their power so, gradually took power
away from the Senate. Augustus was very smart
when it came to the military. He treated them with
respect by doing things like making the city a very
beautiful place for the Romans to live. His most
important leadership quality though, was his
intelligence, because he made many excellent
decisions. Whether it was deciding on what to do
for military reasoning, or what to do about political
issues, he still made good decisions. Rome wouldn’t
have done as well without Augustus. That is how
great of a leader he was. He gave Rome a push in
the right direction.
