All of our pupils display significant difficulties within the ‘Triad of Impairment’ that is at the heart of the autism. A child’s difficulties in language and communication, social relationships, and rigid patterns of behaviour/thought/interests form major barriers to learning. Our role is to help our pupils to come to terms with, and overcome, these difficulties. This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Hillside School & College currently maintains a network of over 100 desktop computers and laptops, printers, interactive Clever touch boards, network infrastructure including site wide wireless network and terminal server. We have also introduced a one to one device scheme for all pupils with the chosen device being iPads. We are exploring an internal helpdesk system to track and manage support requests, but also deal with support requests in person (this is currently with an external service provider). Our aim is to be proactive and approachable, to achieve prompt response times and the best resolution possible to ensure the issue is fully resolved. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will write a network strategy and development plan each year in order to advise on the equipment and areas that need to be considered for investment, upgrades and replacement in order to keep the schools technology current. The post requires an excellent organiser to assist the Senior Leadership Team with the management of the schools IT Service, and who has a strong understanding of networks and the ability to maintain them. The post would suit an enthusiastic and hardworking person with previous experience of working within an IT support environment. Reporting to – School Business Manager, Head Teacher Duties – Develop school policies and procedures for the use if IT within the school environment Install and maintain network cabling; perform advanced diagnostic and recovery routines on network equipment; configure network infrastructure with appropriate server information and software Maintain a comprehensive database of all support requests Be responsible for maintenance and first line repairs of IT hardware and networks, if necessary arranging repairs by outside contractors or replacement Maintain an inVentry of software and hardware Install, maintain and upgrade software, ensuring licences are obtained and kept up to date Minimise down time and inconvenience to user Identify school staff training issues and deliver appropriate training Create and manage all user accounts, ensuring correct access rights and audit as required Ensure data stored on the system is current and out of date data archived Design and implement changes to the school’s network/server infrastructure, software and hardware and liaise with consultants on the specifications required as appropriate Manage network components including switches and wireless access points; install additional servers and upgrade the network operating system; set up disk caches and firewalls; monitor and maintain the school’s internet filtering system Procure IT equipment on behalf of the school which includes managing associated budget Handle the installation and delivery of new computer equipment on arrival and take appropriate measures to report and record the discrepancies Carry out audits of student and staff internet usage, add filters where necessary and report as appropriate in line with school policy Assist with the schools iPad functionality including technical support and purchasing advice To keep abreast of developments in the field of IT and undertake research as appropriate To lead in the development of the school website Attend other IT related meetings, Fairs and conferences to ensure all systems and resources are up to date and in line with current practices and technologies; advise and support on resulting developments Hillside Specialist School & College – IT Manager Vacancy Support & Management Design and apply simple processes to manage configuration and change within the school; carryout implementation of a structured approach to rolling out new hardware and software. Assess risks and develop recovery procedures for key IT systems; identify failing systems and suggest solutions. Assist with the maintenance schedule; manage efficient implementation of backup, virus protection and security procedures, including data protection policies. Create and maintain documentation for the schools network, IT system and procedures. Respond to support requests according to school procedures, recording detailed diagnostic information; ensure steps are taken to find a permanent solution if not immediately possible. Provide second level of in-school support for more complex requests. Interpret detailed diagnostic information; monitor and manage server logs and use them to inform developments and support procedures; produce reports from support logs to provide basic management information on the volume and nature of requests. Assist with the creation of the network strategy & development plan. Oversee the workload of the IT Technician(s) and Learning Resources Development Officer. General Attend relevant courses and actively seek to broaden knowledge and skills relevant to responsibilities; regularly access key ICT education web sites and keep abreast of changes and developments. To fully participate in the School’s appraisal scheme where appropriate. The post holder will be expected to carry out such other duties as reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility. This is a permanent post required to work 37 hours per week for Term time, plus 3 weeks. In line with the statement of particulars of employment, the actual working times are determined by your Head Teacher/Manager. The hours will be worked over 5 days, Monday to Friday.
