Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to: outline key events, locations, and figures of the Renaissance and Reformation and explain humanistic underpinnings of the time period. Students will determine central ideas and information of a primary and secondary source to relate political and social influences to literature. Guidelines: 1. Students have been assigned a question to research on the Renaissance and Reformation period of the 16thand early 17th century. Students will conduct research using a variety of sources (text book, reference material, databases). 2. Students will take notes on the sources used to answer their question. You will be submitting your notes as the documentation used for the poster project. 3. Students will depict and or represent the answer to their question in a poster presentation. The poster should include text, charts, pictures and be organized in a manner that is creative and reflect the answer to the question. Students will present their posters to their literature groups upon completion. Guiding questions: 1. How did Queen Elizabeth I attitude of the theatre impact the class structure in London? 2. How was Sir Thomas More’s vision of Utopia different and similar to British society? 3. How did King Henry the VIII impact Christianity in Britain? Why was he such a religious figure? 4. What area of the arts (literature, music, or art) was most affected by the Renaissance period and why? 5. How was the philosophy of Humanism depicted by the arts during the Reformation? 6. What role did Martin Luther play in Christianity and why was it important?
