Goals
• Allow participants to do hands-on
activities.
• Learn about tree conditions in the
field.
• Interact with a professional in the
forest industry.
• Learn from peers as they ask
questions related to their own
management strategies.
Short Term Objectives (workshop)
• Demonstrate how to use a
clinometer, diameter tape,
and prism.
• Correctly identify timber
species with commercial
value in our region.
• Evaluate general health and
quality of a mature tree.
Med. Term Objectives (within 6 mo.)
• Use their Biltmore Stick to estimate timber
value on sample plot on their property, then
extrapolate to a per acre basis.
• Feel comfortable working with a consulting
forester, NC DFR, or other agency for
technical assistance.
Long Term Objectives (within 1 yr.)

term forest
