Biography
Antonino Giambona was born in Palermo, Italy. Graduation in Biology at “University of
Palermo and PhD Graduation in Medical genetics at University of Catania. He
performed his professional activity at the Hospital "Villa Sofia-Cervello" as Principal
Investigator of Laboratory for Molecular Diagnostic of Rare Diseases, Department of
Hematology and Oncology. He has done laboratory and research activity coordinating
team of Laboratory Technicians and Biologists in the field of hematological diseases with
particular regard to thalassemia, haemoglobinopathies, prenatal diagnosis and molecular
analysis of rare diseases, development of advanced molecular diagnostic prenatal and
preimplantation methodologies of monogenic diseases. He coordinates several
laboratory research projects. He is Board Directors Member of the Italian Society of
Thalassemia and Hemoglobinopathies (SITE). During his professional activity, he
published many many papers on haemoglobinopaties regarding genotype-phenotype
corrrelation, molecular analysis methodologies, prenatal diagnosis which led to
collaborations with many
colleagues in the fied of thalassaemia and
haemoglobinopathies.

His research interests are: Hemoglobinopathies , Thalassemia, Prenatal Diagnosis,
Molecular Biology
