Faith Formation Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY:
The Faith Formation Coordinator plans, develops, organizes and evaluates the Faith Formation
Program for grades Pre-K 11. Recruits, and facilitates training and evaluation for volunteers in
faith formation program. Researches and selects appropriate materials for programs.
Communicates with parishioners, parish staff, the diocese and keeps abreast of the current
national trends and issues within faith formation and catechesis in general. This is part time
position for a minimum 10 hours a week or 40 hours a month and 8 months a year.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops goals, objectives, and implements strategies for a comprehensive faith formation
program that serves grades Pre-K-11 including preparation for sacraments of First
Communion /Reconciliation and Confirmation.
2. In conjunction with the Pastor and the faith formation committee develops and implements a
coherent and unified curriculum and catechetical plan for the parish.
3. Responsible for the recruitment, training and oversight of volunteers/catechists to conduct
the parish’s catechetical programs.
4. Assures volunteers/catechists receive “safe environment” mandatory training and
establishes and implements appropriate training programs for catechists.
5. Manages and supervises the catechists and works with them on the development of a yearly
schedule.
6. Responsible for administrative functions such as maintenance of all program registrations
and evaluations.
7. Annually evaluates faith formation programs and makes recommendations to the Pastor.
8. Promotes programs and provides material for the parish bulletin, weekly update and other
media.
9. Keeps current in developments/changes with Diocesan policies as they relate to formation
and sacramental practices.
10. Acts as a resource person for the catechist, staff and parish community.
11. Prepares annual budget for review by the Finance Council and oversees expenditures.
12. Upon request, provides a statistical picture of the Faith Formation program and submits
reports to the Pastor and Parish Council. Attends meetings as needed.
13. Attends and participates in monthly staff meetings.
14. Attends and participates in the faith formation committee meetings. The Coordinator and
committee members will collaborate in establishing goals and vision for the program.
15. Keeps abreast of diocesan, national, and global church trends in the field of catechesis:
participates in local and regional organizations related to catechesis.
16. Promotes youth activities, retreats and rallies.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:








A bachelor’s degree in theology, pastoral studies, religious education, and education or a
related field or equivalent related experience required. Requires ongoing study and growth
in theology.
Must be a practicing Catholic with in-depth knowledge and training in theology, Scripture,
and Liturgy in the Roman Catholic tradition.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, leadership and administrative skills,
decision-making skills, program development skills, and interpersonal skills.
Must be able to communicate effectively, develop rapport and build relationships with
individuals of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), the internet, and all
basic office equipment is required.
Exceptional organizational and collaboration skills with the ability to plan, organize, and
meet deadlines.
Must be able to handle multiple projects and priorities as required.
Must be flexible to work a variety of hours and non-traditional schedule. Must be able to
maintain strict confidentiality.
