Application for the Classical Association of New England’s Alison Barker Travel Scholarship The Alison Barker Travel Scholarship awards up to $500 annually for educational travel to classical sites to an undergraduate who shows particular interest in the classics. Such travel must be of an educational, rather than a personal or familial, nature; must have as its destination sites that bear substantial physical evidence of the presence of the ancient Greeks and/or Romans; and must be organized by a classics department or be a recognized and established institutional program of study for classical studies (e.g. the Intercollegiate Center [Centro] or the American School of Athens). Travel must be completed by December 31st of the calendar year following the reception of the award. Include in your response your interest in studying the Classics and in pursuing this study abroad. Please enclose the following materials to complete your application: 1. An itinerary of the trip or a description of the program produced by the company or institution. 2. A letter of recommendation from a Classics professor that has taught you as an undergraduate. You may include a second letter to augment your application, but this is not necessary. It is expected that the winner of the award will provide proof of tuition payment that includes the name of the appliedfor program or trip before any money will be released.
