Research Interest ( not more than 100 words):
Only the basic steps required for hepatitis C virus (HCV) entry into a host cell have been
defined. My research is focused on developing a greater understanding of this process. In
particular, I wish to identify the complete set of host factors required for and define how they
facilitate viral entry. In addition, based on our recent identification of the tight junction protein
claudin-1 as an HCV entry factor, I am interested in examining how the polarized nature of a
hepatocyte influences HCV infection.
