Brief summary of PI research / research group / centre activity (2 or 3 lines max):
We use computer vision techniques to recognise 3D objects in stereo images. In particular we are
looking at human motion tacking using multiple cameras. And we are looking at retrieving 3D
objects from databases.
Title & brief description of PhD project (suitable for publication on web):
Medical Analysis of Human Skin using 3D Computer Vision
We are working in collaboration with dermatologists at a Dublin hospital to analyse human skin
diseases. We will use 3D computer vision to model the human face (or other parts of the body) at
a very high resolution. We will measure the extent of lesions in the skin and we will measure the
changes in skin colour due to various medical conditions.
Unique selling points of PhD project in DCU:
DCU projects should offer something that’s not available in Brazil – specific equipment, multi-disciplinarity,
aspects of structured programme, links with industry, placements, links with other research groups etc.
We are collaborating with a highly respected professor of dermatology at a Dublin hospital. We also have links
with medical companies working in this area.
