WALTER TULL Sport, War & Challenging Adversity Key Stage 1 - HISTORY This pack contains an illustrated storybook about Walter Tull for teachers to read to their class, a booklet of activities for teachers to use in the classroom and a full teachers resource book. The activities use a selection of original document sources and photographs which are included in the teacher’s resource booklet. The pack also contains a cd-rom with all the sources on so that teachers can re-print them or use on an interactive whiteboard. The Walter Tull story book can be purchased separately. Cost: £25 Key Stage 2/3 – WITH CITIZENSHIP, PSHE AND HISTORY AS THE MAIN CURRICULAR AREAS This pack contains a Scheme of Work booklet containing many activities relating to Walter Tull and his life story. A detailed teacher’s resource book that gives advice to teachers using the SOW is included along with a cd-rom. The cd-rom contains all 52 sources that are used throughout the SOW so they can be re-printed or used on an interactive whiteboard. Cost: £20 FROM SLAVERY TO EMANCIPATION Key Stage 3 – HISTORY This teaching pack has been produced as part of the commemoration of the Bicentenary of the Parliamentary Abolition of the Transatlantic Slave Trade in the British Empire in 2007. 2007 has given educationalists in Britain a great opportunity to take a fresh look at how the slave trade is taught in British schools. It is hoped that this pack will give teachers more confidence in how to approach the complex and sensitive issues involved. This teaching pack provides 20 lesson plans for one hour long lessons. The lessons could be used as a unit of work for a term. Alternatively, teachers can select certain lessons to form a more concise enquiry. It is envisaged that it could contribute to a more broadly based study of Empire at either Key Stage 2 (related to the Victorian period) or as a more broadly based theme at Key Stage 3. Object handling boxes that accompany this pack are available for loan from Northampton Museum Cost: £25 BLACK HISTORY – IN LIVING MEMORY Key Stage 2 and 3 - History This pack uses the oral history archive of NBHA. Over 200 interviews were conducted as part of the project. This pack uses the recordings to look at post-war Britain and subjects such as arriving and settling; housing and employment; social life; racism and anti-racism. This pack contains an audio cd with extracts from the oral history recordings, giving students a chance to hear other voices explaining the topics. A teachers resource guide and activity sheets are included.
