How does growth takes place in the fund?
A bonus is added daily or monthly depending on the type of policy or
investment.
It becomes part of the investment and cannot be removed or decreased.
However, the bonus rate can fluctuate from time to time, depending on the
level of short-term interest rates.
What is guaranteed
The net investment, which is guaranteed for the full term, plus all
accumulated bonuses, will be payable on the maturity date of the investment
or policy.
The guaranteed amount is also payable in the event of death of the life
assured.
The bonuses can be taken as regular withdrawals
- the investment originated from the continuation of another Sanlam Life
policy,
- it is a Sanlam Traded Policy, or if
- it is a Stratus policy outside it’s restricted period.
The guarantee does not apply to investment in the Stratus Investment
Linked Pension or if the regular cash withdrawals amounts are larger than
the declared bonus.
However, if you invest your Stratus Investment Linked Pension in the
Guaranteed Capital Fund, your net investment will be increased by the
declared bonuses and decreased by your pension payments. Therefore the
net investment amount cannot be guaranteed. The bonuses may not be
withdrawn.
High after-tax returns
The bonuses are tax-free under current tax practice. If you withdraw the
bonuses in the case of continued or traded policies, this represent an aftertax pay-out in your hands and should be compared with other investments’
after-tax amounts. For example, a bonus rate of 10% represents an rate of
16.7%, before tax if you pay tax at 40% marginal rate. (This does not apply
to the Stratus Investment Linked Pension.)
