Take up the whole armor of God to withstand and stand in the evil day (Eph. 6:13-17)
When we are fighting against enemies in the spirit world, we need special equipment both
for offense and defense. God has provided the "whole armor" for us, and we dare not omit
any part. Satan looks for that unguarded area where he can get a beachhead (Eph 4:27). 1.
1. The girdle of truth (v. 14 )
1) Satan is a liar (John 8:44) John 10:10
2) The believer whose life is controlled by truth will defeat him.
3) The truth is the integrating force in the life of the victorious Christian.
4) The girdle also held the sword: Unless we practice the truth, we cannot use the
Word of truth.
a) Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning Luke12:35
b) The wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps Matt 25: 4
c) The truth ( Jesus is the Truth) shall make you free John 8:32;John 14:6
d) The Spirit of Truth shall make you free 2Cor 3:17
2. The breastplate of righteousness (v. 14 )
1) Satan is the accuser, but he cannot accuse the believer who is living a godly life in the
power of the Spirit. (2 Cor 6:1-10).
2) Without practical righteousness in the daily life, only gives Satan opportunity to
attack us.
3) Righteousness and faithfulness shall be the belt of His waistt Is 11:5
4) Bear fruit of righteousness and truth Eph 5:9
3. The shoes of the Gospel (v. 15) with your fitted with the readiness that comes
from gospel of peace
1) If we are going to "stand" and "withstand," then we need the shoes of the Gospel,
2) How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of Him who brings good news
a) Who proclaims peace
b) Who brings glad tidings of good things
c) Who proclaims salvation
d) Who says to Zion. “ Your God reigns “ Is 52:7: Rom 10:15
3) We are all ministers of reconciliation and forgiveness in Christ 2Cor5:18-19
4. The shield of faith (v. 16) take up the shield of faith, with which you can
extinguish all the flaming arrows of evil one
1) The "faith" mentioned here is not saving faith, but rather living faith, a trust in the
promises and the power of God.
2) Faith is a defensive weapon which protects us from Satan's fiery darts.
3) Satan shoots "fiery darts" at our hearts and minds:
a) lies, blasphemous thoughts, hateful thoughts about others,
b) doubts, and burning desires for sm.
4) Faith comes from hearing of the word of God Roms 10:17; Do not quench the Sprit :
without the Holy Spirit, we can’t believe Jesus is our Lord and Savior 1Thes 5:19
5) Faith is the substance of things hopes for, the evidence of things not seen Heb 11:1-2
6) Without action, it is not faith James James 2:17
5. The helmet of salvation (v. 17) take the helmet of salvation
1) If God is for us, who can be against us ? Roms 8:31
2) If you believe Jesus is your Savior and LORD : Who is he who condemns ?
a) Christ Jesus died for us
b) He was raised to life
c) He is at the right hand of God who also makes intercession for us
3) With abiding in Jesus and His word, Who shall separate us form the love of Christ?
a) From tribulation or distress
b) Persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword
4) Satan wants to attack the mind, the way he defeated Eve (Gen 3; 2 Cor 11:1-3).
a) The helmet refers to the mind controlled by God.
b) When God controls the mind, Satan cannot lead the believer astray.
c) We need to be "taught by Him as the truth is in Jesus" (Eph 4:21).
d) We are to "grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus
Christ" (2 Peter 3:18).
6. The sword of the Spirit (v. 17 b) This sword is the offensive weapon God provides
us. Christian Sword is the word of God : the word of God and the Spirit of God go
together .
1) First receive the Spirit of God : The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him
a) The Spirit of wisdom and understanding
b) The Spirit of counsel and mint
c) The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD
2) He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth
3) With the breath of His lips, He shall slay the wicked
4) Powerful sword of the Spirit: The word of God and Submit to God
a) Submit yourself to God
b) Jesus fought against devil with the word of God Matt4:11
c) The word of God is living and powerful and shaper then any two-edged sword
: Piercing even to the division of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow and is a
discerner of the thought and intents of the heart Heb 4:12
