Warren Truss David Gibson Deputy Prime Minister Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Queensland Member for Gympie Joint Media Statement 23 October 2013 New works on Cooroy to Curra BIELBY Holdings Pty Ltd has been awarded a major contract for the Bruce Highway, Cooroy to Curra Section A upgrade, which will see works begin between Cudgerie Drive and Sankeys Road within weeks. The contract was announced today by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Warren Truss, and Queensland Member for Gympie, David Gibson, representing Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Scott Emerson. Mr Truss said the contract involved construction of seven kilometres of four-lane divided highway and a new northern Cooroy interchange. “Approximately 16,000 vehicles currently travel this section of the Bruce Highway each day, and this project will ensure the highway has enough capacity to deal with the expected growth in traffic over future decades,” Mr Truss said. “As work nears completion on the upgrade of Black Mountain Range Road, we can shift our focus to the new section of highway between Cudgerie Drive and Sankeys Road." “The Federal Liberal and Nationals Government will spend $2 billion to upgrade the Bruce Highway through the Wide Bay electorate alone, making it faster, safer and less prone to flooding.” “This is a part of our $6.7 billion Bruce Highway package which, with funding from the Queensland Government, brings the total investment to $8.5 billion over the next ten years to provide better infrastructure for regional Queensland.” Mr Gibson said the contract would also involve the creation of a new interchange north of Cooroy and construction of bridges at Skyring Creek and Gardners Road. “The new Cooroy northern interchange will be built half way between Cudgerie Drive and Black Mountain Range Road, and roundabouts will be provided on each side of the upgraded highway to efficiently connect the local road network,” Mr Gibson said. “The existing highway between Cudgerie Drive and Sankeys Road will be left to service local motorists, and will connect to the interchange via one of the roundabouts.” The Australian and Queensland governments are jointly funding the $790 million Cooroy to Curra Section A, Bruce Highway Upgrade.
