But men saw the competition if won would be the highlight of their lives. -As soon as clisonese gained power conspiracies started to form against him. Pisistratus was an Athenian aristocrat and believed power was his right, and turned outside of Athens to the Spartans for support in hope to over throw clisonese, because he once shared his wife with a Spartan king making them loyal to him. Spartan troops soon were sent to back up his betrayal of the city and to size the power and control of Athens. -The first target of this tyrant was the other aristocrats of Athens, especially Clistonese. Clistonese would then have to leave his city because of a dictatorship. -Athens like their heroes the ordinary people of Athens took their destiny in their own hands and rose up in revolution. Spartan alies and Pisistratus isolated themselves from the rebellious Athenians but after 3 days he was forced to surrender. 508 B.C. was Athens first step to their glory and empire. For the first time people turned against their rulers and took power for themselves. -After this the Athenians then went to clisonese and asked to return from exile and to build a government for Athens. He then designed a revolutionary government solution but he had problems deciding how to give the people a say in their future, but he soon came up with a meeting place where Athenians would talk about their future of their state. Then came up with voting a black pebble for no and a white pebble for yes, and came up with the first ever democracy. -Athenians then would gather to discuss things like taxes, declaration of war, and even building of roadways. -the idea that anyone could be a hero became developed. The system of government would stat the greatest civilizations. -Would take myths and transfer them into theater, would make new sculpture with great passion, and start to architect great and famous buildings. -but soon a new threat developed, the Persian empire. The Persian Empire started to become worried that Athens would purpose a threat. Explain the key factors in the development of Athens The development of philosophy, art, knowledge, and forms of freedom were the key factors in the development of Athens. The development of Athens becoming a powerful city-state was due to their tyrant rulers, the introduction of freedoms, and the constant struggle for power between people and classes.
