Instructional Objective(s):
1) Students will be able to analyze a current event article and state which branch of government
relates to the topic of the article with 90% accuracy
2) Students will be able to identify the part of the Constitution that empowers the federal
government to take action on the topic of their article with 80% accuracy

Blizzard Bag #1 – Current Event Article
Media Outlet (newspapers, magazines, internet)
Method of Instruction:
Article Analysis
Activities:
 Instructor will distribute Blizzard Bag #1 – Current Event Article to each student
 Instructor will introduce the assignment and answer all student questions in relation to the
assignment
o Search various forms of media (online, newspaper, magazines, etc….) and find a current
event article that relates to the federal government.
o Select an article that relates to one of the branches of federal government.
o Analyze the article by answering the questions below.
o Staple a copy of the article to this page.
o Answer the following questions:
 Provide a brief summary of the article (2-3 sentences).
 What branch of government is responsible for dealing with the actions in your
article?
 What part of the Constitution provides the federal government the authority to
take action on the topic of your article? State the Article and Section of the
Constitution and summarize what the Constitution states.
Closure:
1) Analyze a current event article and state which branch of government relates to the topic of the
article
2) Identify the part of the Constitution that empowers the federal government to take action on the
topic of their article
