Major Security Indices
The major indices have experienced increased volatility as concerns about China's growth rate, the Fed
changing its rate policy and oil prices have made investors cautious. The markets began the new year with
the worst performance ever but have rallied back since mid-February. Expectations for second quarter
earnings are muted, however the rise in oil prices and weakening US Dollar could provide some positive
surprises. U.S. economic data remains positive. The pace of future interest rate increases is important as
to how the equity market reacts. Corporations have ample cash to increase dividends, repurchase stock
and reinvest in new plant and equipment, all of which could support higher market prices.
