Maine is poised for dramatic economic growth in
renewable energy technologies. With alternative energy
as one of Maine’s targeted and fastest growing economic
sectors, the Renewable Energy Center at Brunswick
Landing will concentrate on renewable energy:
• Product Manufacturing
• Generation/Distribution
• Research and Development
In addition, Brunswick Landing is the new home of the
Maine Advanced Technology and Engineering Center
(MATEC), a partnership between the University of
Maine and Southern Maine Community College. The
focus will be on precision manufacturing, advanced
energy systems, ship/boat building and
composites. With several institutions of higher
education having a presence at Brunswick
Landing the Renewable Energy Center will
become a national center for excellence using
renewable, clean energy technologies.
Located within 50 miles of two-thirds of Maine’s
labor force and with easy access to I-295, I-95
and U.S. Route 1, Brunswick Landing is integrated into
the communities of Bath, Brunswick and Topsham which
are located in the beautiful midcoast region of Maine just 30 minutes from Portland and less than two hours
from Boston.

BRUNSWICK
The early residents of Brunswick made their living
from fishing, farming, lumbering and shipbuilding.
During the twentieth century, Brunswick
experienced extensive population growth, and has
continued to grow steadily ever since. Brunswick
is home to Bowdoin College and Naval Air Station
Brunswick, has 66 miles of irregular shoreline
along the Atlantic Ocean and 12 miles along the
Androscoggin River. Brunswick was voted one of
the top “100 Best Places to Live and Launch 2008”
by CNN/Money Magazine.

Work Force Training Programs
When locating to Brunswick Landing, you will have access
to a highly skilled and qualified work force and several
customizable training resources just outside the door.
Customized state training programs meet the business
demands for a highly skilled, technical workforce including
training, reimbursement, and apprenticeship programs. The
following education and training programs will be integrated
into the business landscape at NASB.
Rail Access
To provide infrastructure for its railroad lines to grow,
the State of Maine partnered with local rail lines to
build a truck-to-rail intermodal facility in Auburn,
located about 40 miles north of, and inland from,
Portland, Maine. There is active rail lines adjacent
to the Brunswick Landing property. In addition, the
Downeaster, Amtrak service from Boston, is expected
to arrive in Brunswick by 2012.
Maine Quality Centers Program - Through its Community
College System, Maine offers free training and education for
qualified new and expanding businesses. Under the Maine
Quality Centers program, businesses - or consortia of small
businesses - creating a minimum of eight new full-time jobs are
eligible for customized recruitment, high-performance skills, or
customized technical training.
Port Access
Port Access is available in Portland, which is
approximately 30 minutes from the midcoast region
via the Portland International Marine Terminal and the
Portland Ocean Terminal (Pier 1 and 2).

Technology Occupations Through Pathways Strategies (Tops)
TOPS provides 50% wage reimbursements for up to 13 weeks
and classroom training cost reimbursement for upgrading work
forces skills or skill gaps for an employer’s needs for Maine
resident hires.

Business Incentives
A number of business incentives for new, relocating and existing businesses are offered by the midcoast
community and the State of Maine.
Pine Tree Development Zones (PTDZ) - Tax rebate and reimbursement program offered by the State.
Created in 2006, the PTDZ includes approximately 1,000 acres at Brunswick Landing. Redevelopment in the
PTDZ reduces the tax burden for qualified businesses through a variety of exemptions, reimbursements
and credits:
Corporate Income Tax Credit – Qualified companies will receive a 100% Maine State corporate income tax
exemption for years 1-5 of their Maine based operation. Qualified companies will receive a 50% Maine
State corporate income tax exemption for years 6-10 of their Maine based operation.
Insurance Tax Credit - Qualified companies will receive a 100% tax credit benefit on insurance premiums for
up to five years.
Sales and Use Tax Exemption – Qualified companies will receive a 100% State of Maine sales tax exemption
on all equipment and building supplies for years 1-10 of their Maine based operation.
Employment Tax Increment Financing – Qualified companies will be reimbursed 80% of a qualified employee’s
personal state income tax obligation. For example, if an employee’s State personal income tax obligation
for a year is $2000, the State will return $1,600 to the company. If a company has ten similar employees,
the company will receive $16,000.
Employment Wage Subsidy and Training Funds - Employees can qualify for up to 12 weeks of new hire wage
reimbursement or 50% of wages, training and education subsidies.
Maine Apprenticeship Program - Maine works together with employers to cover the costs of customized,
on-the-job training and classroom programs aimed at providing employees with professional credentials.
Foreign Trade Zone - The Brunswick Landing will be a designated a Foreign Trade Zone.
New Market Tax Credit (NMTC) - A federal program that benefits companies locating to Brunswick Landing. A
business is only required to repay about 70% of loans that are funded by NMTC investors.
