SOL 68 SOWG DOCUMENTARIAN REPORT Thursday, April 1, 2004, in Pasadena, CA; Executing Sol 67 and planning for Sol 68 SOWG Chair: Steve Squyres SOWG Doc: Wendy Calvin SOL 67 EXECUTION: ROUGH NOTES FROM DOWNLINK: Data down was mostly MI on rat hole (anaglyph made), instruments are healthy, ready to go. RAT is working on evaluating the strength of the rock, need a couple sols. MB reports that 3 spots (Loreley, Eifel, Fips2) look like the original – no sign of a sextet. Rough sketch – day is backup to view Bounce Rock with Pancam and MTES and reapproach to get right hand side in work volume. Also MGS overpass so simultaneous TES/Mini-TES observations. Request some MI’s on soil at base of bounce rock. Note on transition to Earth time – team elected to take Sunday night off, come in early Monday for start of sol, downlink meetings. SOL 68 PLANNING: NOTES FROM SOWG: Constraints: ~ 200Mbits, ~4hours of up time. Science Requested Activities: IDD of Bounce Rock Soil: MI 5 position Off Glanz2 Face Alt (highest priority) Haz to verify MI 5 Position Off Eifel face Haz to verify Reposition Drive Backup for PMA work Turn and approach Bounce Reapproach Ultimate Front Reapproach Ultimate rear NCAM Traverse Documentation – Test new method of compression and downsampling to see if this provides sufficient info for localization during drives. 2x2 sum, lossless compression. Trimmed to 180 deg, North facing during SOWG. RAT Magnets post RAT – 13F + cal MTES bounce rock raster – 17x5, includes interferograms – high density 20 ick on bounce rock. MTES bounce soil stare – 100 ick stare on soil to remove from raster edges MTES bounce rock stare center 3 stares on rock to complement raster. Priority 0 MTES bounce rock stare lefty – Priority 3 MTES bounce rock stare righty – Priority 1 MTES upper soil stare – 100 ick stare to remove soil from raster spectra MGS Concurrent observations: Pancam Tau Pre MGS MGS Albedo Panlet MGS MTES Pre-overflight MGS MiniTES Simultaneous MGS MiniTES post overflight Pancam Geofilter opacity post MGS Atmospheres: PMA mini Sky and Ground anytime (2 requests) Pancam tau anytimes (2 requests) What’s In / What’s Out: Most of reqested observations are in! What is out: 1 of the MI sequences (off Eifel), RAT Magnets, Pancam Tau Pre-MGS, Pancam taus anytime (both requests) Changes: MGS Albedo Panlet will run just after MGS overflight instead of before. Order of miniTES stares on upper soil, rock left, center, right, and bounce soil adjusted to reduce effects from PMA mast shadowing. (raster and 13F pancam should be ok) See attached Excel/PDF from Brian Chafin (TAP) for detailed seq ids and timing.
