OBJECTIVES: The learner will compare and contrast women’s
role in American society pre & post WWII. He/she will take notes
on the government’s use of propaganda to influence women’s
participation in the wartime effort. Then, the learner will create a
propaganda poster that would influence women during WWII to
participate in the wartime effort.
TEKS/Standards:
History 2 (A): Identify the major characteristics that define a
historical era.
History 7 (G): Explain the home front and how American
patriotism inspired exceptional actions by citizens and military
personnel, including high levels of military enlistment;
volunteerism; the purchase of war bonds; Victory Gardens; the
bravery and contributions of the Tuskegee Airmen, the Flying
Tigers, and the Navajo Code Talkers; and opportunities and
obstacles for women and ethnic minorities.

I will lead the diagram on white board and call on
students randomly to fill in sections of the diagram

The learner will acquire information about
the wartime effort of women by taking notes

propaganda poster influencing WWII women
to participate in war time efforts.
(WACS, WASPS, Factory Workers, Victory
Gardens, etc.)
Teacher Procedures:
I will display several examples of WWII
propaganda, distribute the rubric, and circulate the
room to ensure class participation/answer any
questions that may arise.
Student Procedures:
The students will create a propaganda
poster based on information/examples they
learned about in the lesson.

change and encourage women to
participate in the wartime effort?
 What can you include in your poster to
provoke a specific emotion from your

Objective(s): The learner will brainstorm
what happened to women’s roles in society
when the men came back from war.

instructions and offer several question stems to
encourage critical thinking.

Students will create a “T chart” that
compares women’s roles in society that
were new during WWII and remained after
the war, to roles that didn’t remain after the
men returned home from war.

5th period is my inclusion class; therefore we have an inclusion teacher to help those with specific needs.
I will provide instructions both orally and visually.
