SMR - Confidence to stay invested Sales Aid buy low - sell high Consistently timing the market is impossible. Why try? Investors often get in and out at the wrong time. Take emotions and timing out of the decision making process. Sanlam Managed Risk (SMR) has two automatic rebalances that are designed to capture gains in different market cycles. Sell High - Rebalance -5% Time 1 As funds increase in value, the SMRaccount loses value due to the hedging strategy. Time 2 When the total portfolio value falls 5% from a new high, the portfolio is rebalanced to harvest gains. Rebalance Sell fund units and use the proceeds to increase the value of the SMRaccount. GOAL Capture gains and better protect portfolio against future loss. Sell High Rebalance Example* Time 0 Time 1 Time 2 Rebalance Starting allocation Total portfolio hits new high Total port. drops 5% from new high Portfolio is rebalanced to harvest gains Funds $90,000 $110,000 $103,000 $98,325 SMRaccount $10,000 $5,000 $6,250 $10,925 $100,000 $115,000 $109,250 $109,250 TOTAL PORTFOLIO Buy Low - Rebalance Time 1 As the funds decrease in value, the SMRaccount gains in value due to the risk management strategy. Time 2 When funds have fallen significantly, the portfolio is rebalanced to harvest gains in the SMRaccount. Rebalance Use the cash in the SMRaccount to purchase fund units. GOAL Increase fund exposure after markets have decreased considerably and participate further if markets rise.
