WHEREAS, the month of February is nationally known as
Black History Month, a time set aside for all of us to
recognize and learn more about the lives and contributions
of Blacks to American History; and
WHEREAS, Blacks' contributions to the democratic
process,
the arts,
literature, education,
religion,
sports, and life in general did not always receive the
recognition they deserved; and
WHEREAS, here, in Beaufort County, we are fortunate
to have the opportunity to share in such a rich and unique
history, and
WHEREAS, various programs and recognitions will help
illuminate these contributions throughout the month in our
schools, churches, and other institutions; and
WHEREAS, a continuous sharing of history improves our
understanding of each other and lays the foundation for a
better community; and
WHEREAS, we, in County Government, consider it our
obligation to recognize and use every opportunity to lead
appropriately when such occasion presents itself.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED 1 that I , Thomas C.
Taylor, Chairman of the County Council of Beaufort County,
join the rest of the Country in proclaiming the month of
February, Black History Month.
