Install a ‘hydromentum’ rainwater harvesting system on a willing
business or agricultural premises and undertake comprehensive
monitoring over a 12 month period to assess; volumes of
rainwater collected; business costs savings (from reduced mains
water bills); uses of water harvested; any additional treatment
costs; and quantify volumes of water not discharged to the
surface water system.
Extrapolate data for estimates of cost and volume savings at
property, development and other (regional?) scales.
Use ‘test site’ for demonstration/promotion purposes.

Outcomes - Please describe
what you expect the project to
achieve in terms of
Environmental, Social and
Economic Outcomes
Please describe how your project contributes to the Heart of the
SW LEP’s Priorities for Growth (see Appendix A). Please list the
priorities where your project could make a direct contribution and
explain how it will contribute.

No
for the project yet? If so, list
amounts and sources.
In your view, what are the

potential sources of funding for possibly a small contribution
this project?
from the volunteer business
Environmental Outcomes:
Reduced ‘reliance’ on mains water and hence water resources.
Reduced volumetric inputs to drainage systems with associated
‘downstream’ impacts mitigated.
Social Outcomes:
Promotes Devon ‘green’ credentials and local innovations.
Economic Outcomes:
Cost savings for volunteer business.
Potential market growth/export opportunity for local technology
provider.
Quantifiable outputs - Please
provide any information you have
about quantifiable benefits?
Simple calculations for typical rainwater volumes on ‘standard’
house roofs – if applied to the proposed numbers of new houses
in Cornwall over the next 35 years – gives volumes equal to an
Please describe how these have
been estimated.

is more required?

statutory approvals will be
required for the project? Are
these in place?

impounding reservoir the size of Stithians near Truro, per annum.
This ‘natural capital’ is then essentially lost back to the water
cycle but not without the potential for ‘environmental damage’
on the way, e.g. flooding and CSO discharges.
SWW have consulted with Water Powered Technologies who
support this proposal.
SWW have also raised the ‘hydromentum’ with the Chair of DEBI.
