THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT
IMPROVED WORKING CONDITIONS THROUGH VIBRATION ISOLATION
An organization specialized in the engineering of
advanced power supplies was unpleasantly
surprised that his customer, a greenhouse for
flowers, was facing sound and vibration problems.
The greenhouse experienced annoying noise and
vibrations caused by the generator set used for the
greenhouse’s power supply.
The transportation of the vibration through the
greenhouse’s floor worsened this problem and made
that the generator set were heard and felt by all
employees throughout the whole site.
In the Netherlands, the safety and health of employees
are taken very seriously. It has even been formalized
by the enactment of a law addressing the safety and
working conditions for personnel. The working
conditions and safety act “Arbo” clearly states which
level of noise is admissible and which is not. However,
at this stage the act does not sufficiently address work
floor vibrations.
Research has shown that also these vibrations have a
considerable influence on absenteeism and production
loss. From social, medical, legal and economical
perspectives vibration of the greenhouse’s floor is
considered unacceptable and measures had to be
taken.
Research has shown that
vibrations exert a considerable
influence on absenteeism and
production loss.
Loggers was consulted to examine the vibrations
onsite and asked to engineer a solution for the
greenhouse. Loggers eventually managed to isolate all
vibrations quickly and effectively by using state-of-theart techniques and products, backed up by the
company’s 90 years of experience in the area of
vibration, shock and noise control.
Loggers typically approaches these isolation difficulties
with the company’s high-grade service of tracing and
pin-pointing the source of vibration and sounds. This
measurement is usually carried out free of
engagement. By accurately tracing all components and
executing vibration and sound measurements onsite
(addressing
sound,
vibration
and
rotational
frequencies), Loggers is able to map out a detailed
spectrum.
In some cases the source of vibration and noise turns
out to be in the direct environment of the facility, not on
the site itself. Sometimes an architectural intervention
turns out necessary; in other cases you may need a
spring or damping system from the Loggers portfolio.
When the exact sources and nature of the vibrations
are determined, the problem is defined and the
gathered data analyzed thoroughly. While completely
understanding the problem Loggers skilled and
experienced professionals design and engineer the
optimal solution for the most complex challenges.
For the greenhouse Loggers’ accurate measurement
and analysis of the data collected in the greenhouse
was essential in engineering the optimal solution. In
this specific case Loggers’ superior EvoLo® 631
vibration mounts were used to isolate the vibrations.
As a result, the vibration generated by the generator
set is completely isolated and all legal requirements
regarding working conditions are met. Absenteeism
and production loss have been decreased significantly.
The vibration caused by the
generator set is completely
isolated: the greenhouse complies
with all legal requirements
regarding working conditions
again. The employees look happy
as the greenhouse has become a
far more comfortable working
environment.
At Loggers, we enjoyed our contribution in making the
greenhouse for flowers a nice and comfortable place to
work for all employees again.
