The system that moves blood through the human body is the circulatory system. The circulatory system
includes the heart, blood, and blood vessels.
The respiratory system exchanges gases between air and blood. The respiratory system includes the
nose, mouth, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, and air sacs in the lungs.
Major organs of the nervous system are the brain and the spinal cord. The nervous system is responsible
for controlling how you react to information.
When you hold your breath, your brain sends a message to the diaphragm and rib muscles telling them
to breathe. This message is sent to the brain when carbon dioxide builds up in the blood.
Skeletal muscles work together as opposites. When one contracts, the other relaxes. Remember your
biceps and triceps, which are opposite pairs.
The pancreas and liver send chemicals to the small intestine to help digest food. Food moves through
the esophagus when rings of muscles squeeze food down the esophagus.
The muscular system works with the digestive system to move food through the stomach and intestines.
It works with the skeletal system to help the body move. How do other systems work together?
If the respiratory system does not function properly, then the circulatory system cannot transport
enough oxygen to the body. Without enough oxygen, other organs and tissues of the body will not
function properly.
