B. Plant Physiology
3.0 Summarize Plant Anatomy.
3.01 Discuss biological terms used to
describe plants
Plant Life Cycles
 Annual
– a plant that completes its life cycle in one year.
Plant Life Cycles
 Biennial
– a plant that completes its life cycle in two years.
– It usually grows the first year and flowers the
second year
Plant Life Cycles
 Perennial
– a plant that lives more than two years.
– Some perennials will grow and bloom the first
year
Leaf Retention
 Deciduous
– loses leaves during the dormant season.
 Evergreen
– keeps leaves and remains green year-round.
Moisture in Plants
 Turgid
– plant is swollen or filled with moisture.
 Wilted
– plant is limp because it does not have enough
moisture.
Plant Growth
 Dormant is a stage when a plant rests or
grows very little
 Plants generally go dormant in response to
adverse conditions
– Extreme heat
– Extreme cold
Plant Growth
 Botany is the part of biology that deals with
plants
Season Crop Type
 Cool season crop
plants relish in cool
temperatures, growing
best in spring or fall.
– Pansies
 Warm season plants
grow best in warm
temperatures, growing
best in the summer
and early fall.
– Zinnia, marigold, vinca
