CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER (CMO)

GTA requires suitable Chief Marketing Officer to ensure effective support for the achievement
of the overall vision and strategic imperatives of the Gauteng Tourism Authority through sound
application of marketing, communications, visitor services, events and management principles.
Reporting Structure
The Chief Marketing Officer reports directly to the GTA Chief Executive Officer and will at all
times carry all instructions of the CEO.
Roles and Responsibilities

A Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) is responsible for overseeing the planning,
development and execution of GTA Destination Marketing Strategy

The CMO's primary responsibility is to promote Destination Gauteng through successful
marketing, using market research, product marketing, communications, advertising and
public relations.

The CMO will ensure that the GTA's message is distributed across channels and to
targeted audiences. These includes seeking out new ways to deliver messaging, such
as mobile platforms, video and social media.

The CMO will serve as the GTA spokesperson

The CMO will be responsible to drive Tourism Services such as Visitor safety activities
and information sharing

The CMO will drive the Gauteng Events Strategy through GTA’s Convention Bureau and
Events.

The CMO will drive the process of collaboration and Integration between the supply and
demand tourism functions and the industry (National, Provincial and Local) through the
implementation of the Gauteng Tourism Sector Strategy.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:

M+4 Relevant Honours in Marketing and Communications.

Chartered Marketer plus a recognized management/leadership qualification.

At least 10 years’ experience in Marketing and Communications, Public Relations and
have an understanding business events industry within the South African market at a
Senior Management level.

MBA or Master’s qualification specializing in Marketing will be an advantage.
Knowledge and expertise
The incumbent requires a sound working knowledge of:

Marketing and Communications methodologies, platforms and channels

PR and Media Relations

In depth understanding of Legislative frameworks and contractual law impacting on
marketing and Communications
The position’s Salary Package is on Level 21 of Haygroup System
The GTA also applies employment equity criteria to all appointments.
