POSITION DESCRIPTION MEMBRANE SPECIALIST __________________________________________________________________ Job Title: Membrane Specialist __________________________________________________________________ Reports To: (Job Title) - Water Production Maintenance Superintendent __________________________________________________________________ Supervises Directly: (Job Titles + # Employees) - N/A __________________________________________________________________ Supervises Through Subordinates: - N/A __________________________________________________________________ PURPOSE OF POSITION Maintenance of membrane and appurtenant treatment systems - Directly responsible for monitoring and documenting performance, of low pressure reverse osmosis and nanofiltration (“membrane”) water treatment skids, degasifiers, scrubbers, all chemical feed systems and appurtenances, scheduling and supervising maintenance, renewal and replacement of each. Must possess specific and thorough knowledge of membrane water treatment, membrane cleaning operations, chemical feed systems, water treatment chemicals, fluid mechanics, pump operation and maintenance, and pump maintenance. Must have extensive skilled and direct technical experience in the operation and maintenance of a municipal potable water membrane treatment system. Considerable knowledge of tools, instruments and equipment used in a variety of mechanical, electrical and electronic trades. Computer skills are a must. Candidate must be skilled in the operation of relevant test equipment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Oversee membrane clean in place operations, prepare and 20% interpret normalization data for all membrane skids. 2. Collect data and accurately assess the performance and 20% condition of membrane skids, odor control and chemical feed systems and appurtenant equipment. 3. Troubleshoot all types of equipment used in Authority’s membrane 20% water treatment system, including pre-treatment and posttreatment equipment. 4. Coordinate repairs, maintenance and replacement of equipment 20% with suppliers, contractors and vendors. 5. Periodically plan, coordinates, manages, monitors and reports the results of membrane test skid operations. 6. Develop and facilitate training programs for plant operators, mechanics and support staff under the direction of Chief Operator/Supervisor. 7. Other: Uniforms/Safety Shoes: Employees in this position are required to wear company furnished uniforms and must supply and wear safety shoes at all times when on duty. Safety shoes must meet, at a minimum, the following criteria: (a) Sole - Puncture resistant urethane, chemigum or vibram rubber; (b) Upper - Full grain cowhide leather. Tennis/athletic shoes are not approved safety shoes regardless of upper construction. _______________________________________________________________________ REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES - - Experience with the operation and maintenance, including routine cleaning in place, of low pressure reverse osmosis and/or nanofiltration membrane. Experience with acid, caustic, sodium hypochlorite, carbon dioxide, antiscalant, sequestrant and corrosion inhibitor feed systems commonly used in potable water treatment. Experience with multiple types of positive displacement chemical metering pumps. Experience monitoring, adjusting, cleaning and renewing packed degasification and odor control (scrubber) and appurtenant equipment. Experience in the planning and execution of pilot membrane skid testing. _______________________________________________________________________ MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Graduation from an accredited high school. Ten years’ experience operating and/or maintaining public water supply low pressure reverse osmosis and/or nanofiltration membrane treatment systems. - Valid Florida Driver’s license. - Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, be able to read and understand drawings, technical papers and take/understand direction from engineers, director, manager and supervisors. Safety is paramount. _____________________________________________________________________ Pay Grade: 58 ($44,408.00 - $74,027.20 annually) Status: Nonexempt Date: 10/12/2015
