A large School within the College, the School of Psychology & Public Health undertakes teaching and research across a broad range of disciplines, including: Psychology; Neuroscience; Counselling; Art Therapy; Public Health; Health Information Management and Ergonomics, Safety and Health. The School currently comprises six academic units: the Department of Psychology and Counselling, the Department of Public Health, the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society (ARCSHS), the Bouverie Centre, the Centre for Alcohol Policy and Research (CAPR), and the Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre (OTARC). The Department of Psychology and Counselling is recognised as a leading authority in many areas of psychology, including clinical psychology and social psychology, cognition and developmental psychology, neuroscience and neuropsychology; affirmed by achieving a ranking of 4 (above world standard) in Psychology research and 5 (well above world standard) in Neuroscience research in the Excellence in Research Australia assessment. Members of the Department are key contributors to La Trobe’s Research Focus Areas (five cross-disciplinary research areas that build on its strengths and address some of the most pressing questions affecting the future of human societies and their environments) - Building Healthy Communities, Securing Food, Water and the Environment; Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation; Understanding Disease; and, Transforming Human Societies. The Department has a dynamic higher degree program in a range of areas, with large numbers of Honours, Masters (including professional Masters degrees in Clinical Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology), and PhD students from Australia and overseas. The Department offers a flexible range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses by which it aims to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities through excellence in teaching and research across discipline areas such as clinical psychology and social psychology, cognition and developmental psychology, neuroscience and neuropsychology. The postgraduate professional courses in clinical psychology and clinical neuropsychology are designed for postgraduate students who wish to pursue careers in professional psychology, with relevant external accreditation. Level A – Associate Lecturer A Level A teaching focused academic is expected to contribute to teaching and teaching activities and to develop their scholarly and/or professional expertise relevant to the profession or discipline. This position sits within the Department of Psychology and Counselling. The appointee will be expected to assist in the coordination of subjects and also to undertake related teaching and marking, primarily in the Department’s undergraduate Psychology programs. Teaching Duties at this level may include: Supervise class activities, e.g. workshop and practical work. Develop subject material with appropriate guidance from the subject or course coordinator. Develop a scholarly approach to learning and teaching (possibly including contribution to disciplinary teaching pedagogy and research). Participate in La Trobe curriculum, teaching and learning projects as required. Other Provide advice within the field of the employee's discipline expertise to students. Provide service to the profession and/or discipline through professional association memberships. Participate as a member of a team working in partnership with local agencies and partners. Key Selection Criteria ESSENTIAL Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline, and evidence of participation in higher level study relevant to discipline or professional area; Experience in teaching and placement supervision at the undergraduate level or equivalent teaching experience. A knowledge of current and new teaching methods and pedagogies. Experience in postgraduate research and/or scholarly activity, such as completion of a postgraduate qualification or equivalent professional accreditation. Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with people from a diverse range of backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member in a collaborative and collegial manner as well as the ability to work independently. DESIRABLE: Experience in teaching Psychology at an undergraduate level, in both taught and practice modes. Experience in using and developing online teaching technologies Graduate Certificate in Higher Education or equivalent Other relevant information: The Department currently delivers teaching at both the Melbourne (Bundoora) and regional (Bendigo and Albury-Wodonga) campuses. The incumbent will be primarily based at the Melbourne campus (Bundoora) but may be allocated teaching which they will be required to deliver and/or coordinate at the regional campuses.
