2017 Federal Death Penalty Authorized Case Consultation and Training Conference
Attendance By Invitation Only
The Federal Death Penalty Resource Counsel (FDPRC), the Capital Resource Counsel (CRC),
the Federal Capital Appellate Resource Counsel (FCARC) Projects and the Administrative
Office of the United States Courts, Office of the Defender Services (ODS), are pleased to
announce our annual Federal Death Penalty Authorized Case Consultation and Training
Conference (ACT) which will take place from 5PM Wednesday, May 24 through 6PM Friday,
May 26, 2017, in St. Louis, Missouri, at the St. Louis University School of Law.
This program is designed for defense practitioners on an active federal capital trial case. Your
entire team is invited to attend the ACT program for the unique opportunity to access intensive
training and consultation with numerous faculty and other teams engaged in federal capital
defense practice. Your team will have the opportunity to work closely with faculty in both large
group plenaries and small group workshops utilizing a client-centered approach with the majority
of the program time spent in small group workshop sessions. The focus of the 2017 program
will be on mental health issues and the impact of incarceration experiences (e.g. juvenile
detention, jail, state and federal prison) on our clients, as well as prison killings/BOP homicides.
Additional topics expected to be included in the program agenda will be overall brainstorming
the case, effective teamwork, investigation and presentation of mitigation evidence, including
trauma history, race and culture on the team and in the case, working effectively with experts,
plea strategies, and victim work.
In the small group workshops, you will engage with your team members as well as with other
experienced practitioners. All program attendees are expected to attend all sessions – this is an
intensive program that requires full participation.
Program faculty will be available to provide additional assistance to you during the training - and
Resource Counsel will follow-up with your team -- as you continue to prepare for your capital
trial or settlement of the case.
This Federal Death Penalty Authorized Case Consultation and Training Conference is free of
charge.
