Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Forensic Science
The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) seeks to fill a full-time faculty position in Forensic Sciences, to
begin in August, 2015. The Department of Biopharmaceutical Sciences in the UIC College of Pharmacy
offers a FEPAC-accredited M.S. program in Forensic Science. The faculty rank is open, with competitive
salary, commensurate with experience; startup funds will be available.
The successful candidate will participate in the teaching of departmental courses that include forensic
biology, applications of DNA analyses and genomics, toxicology, drug identification, trace material,
courtroom testimony, and other areas relevant to current forensic sciences. The department
particularly encourages applicants with expertise in DNA analysis and genomics.
The successful candidate will also participate in the continued development of the forensic science
program by leading an active, externally-funded research program related to forensic science, which will
ideally include projects suitable for student participation. Moreover, the successful candidate will be
expected to support and extend relationships with operational forensic laboratories in the Chicago area,
especially those with the Illinois State Police, and will have a major role in the educational missions of
the forensic science program. There is an expectation of teaching, team-teaching, and/or coordination
of forensic science core courses, and serving as faculty advisor for master’s theses.
Minimum Qualifications of the position include a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, or a related
field, particularly with specialties in forensic biology, DNA, or criminalistics. In addition, preference will
be given to candidates with track records as practitioners in an operational forensic laboratory setting,
and/or in an academic forensic science setting.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants qualified in forensic DNA analysis, and
forensic biology along with experience in teaching forensic sciences. Individuals familiar with national
accreditation (FEPAC) are especially encouraged to apply. An appointment at the Associate or Full
Professor level will require documented experience and national or international recognition in a major
discipline of forensic sciences.
The search will remain open until the position is filled. Applications must include: a cover letter stating
interest in the position and a summary of career experiences, a current curriculum vitae, a description of
proposed research activities, and contact information for three professional references.
