Alden Update – January 21, 2014 Dear Families: Please go to the Alden webpage to view the approved school calendar for the 201415 school year. This may be helpful to you in planning family travel. The winter edition of the Dragon’s Tale is available to read on the Alden website. Thank you to the students who contributed excellent writing pieces, to our cover designer, Teddy Stravin, the many typists, and Cara Clelland who put it all together. Upcoming Events: Polar Bear Day – January 29th. Students are encouraged to wear white to show support for our Endangered Animal Day. A $1.00 donation (optional) will be collected to support the World Wildlife Foundation. A Message from Kathy Carney, School Nurse: February is Dental Health Month and we are fortunate to once again have Amy Rusinak, the town's dental hygienist, come in to provide education on dental hygiene to our 3rd graders. She will also be doing oral screenings on the 5th grade students. The hygienist will be using a mouth mirror and explorer under available light. This procedure is non-invasive, disposable instruments are used, and the dental hygienist changes gloves with each child. The screening is important as a survey of the child’s general dental condition but does not preclude the child’s regular and thorough examination by your family dentist. As always, please call with any questions or concerns. Are You Smarter Than a Duxbury Fifth Grader? We are looking for community teams as well as parent volunteers to be team leaders, organize and sell food items, and be event helpers. If interested, please contact Debby Gayoski at [email protected] or Michelle Tackitt at [email protected]. Duxbury Elementary Science Fair will be Saturday, March 29 @ 9:00. Registration will be open from February 3-28. Please visit http://www.duxbury.k12.ma.us/Page/4703 for more information. We look forward to your child's participation!
