Board Games Board games are a great way for your whole family to spend time together while also letting your child practice skills including counting, turn taking, using manners and following rules. Some suggested board games that can be found at your local toy or department store include: Tell-A-Story Players have a character card that they are trying to match with the face down cards. Using memory skills, the goal of part one of the game is to have each player collect all 5 story cards associated with his or her character card. After all 5 are acquired, have your child order the 5 cards logically according to pictures on each or have your child choose the order. After this, your child has to tell a story from beginning to end according to the cards. Pirate Talk This Super Duper Publications game helps children practice receptive and expressive language skills in a fun way! Hi Ho! Cherry-O This game helps you child learn counting and turn taking, as the first player with 10 cherries in his or her bucket wins! Buckaroo For this game, players have to take turns putting items on the back of a mule (also known as Buckaroo). Some items include a saddle, a cowboy hat and a shovel. If the item is not placed on Buckaroo’s back gently enough, Buckaroo will ‘buck’, dropping all of the items on his back. Who’s Hiding? This puzzle piece matching game helps children first practice identifying who is hiding and where this person or animal is hiding by considering location like in, under and behind. Mind Your Manners This game teaches basic manners to your child in a fun way! You can then encourage your child to use good manners everyday when interacting with other children and adults. Candy Land This colourful game allows your child to practice number and colours based on drawn cards. This is a simple introduction to board games for young children. Poppa’s Pizza Topple Game This game requires player to put pizza toppings on a pizza pie balanced by Poppa. If a player overloads the toppings, the pizza will topple! I Spy Eagle Eye Game Find items on the board that match the items on your card. The first person to find all of his or her items wins!
