MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:
The post holder will manage the delivery of our communities work in Scotland with a
main focus on our new project that will work with older people across Scotland.
We have big ambitions for our community projects, including making a big difference
for our beneficiaries, influencing policy and practice, and concluding the work having
developed an effective, evidence-based approach that can be replicated elsewhere.
You will be the key Living Streets contact for the project, working to build and
maintain strong local partnerships with organisations, including housing associations
and community care providers; older peoples groups; and other stakeholders.
In the first six months, you will lead on planning the project in detail and recruiting
project staff. During delivery, you will be responsible for recruiting partners, and
supporting our project coordinators and associates to coproduce and deliver
interventions to improve the wellbeing of older people and other people. You will also
have an important role to play in directing the walking connect and other community
project as we test and learn our approach, and disseminating our evaluation and
findings.
You will also work closely with other managers to support and oversee staff working
on a range of community based projects including work to promote walking, helping
communities use the place standard tool, street audits and links with our schools
programmes.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project set up
 Create a robust plan for delivery, building on Living Streets’ project delivery
plans, as agreed with our funders
 Recruit Project Coordinators and carry out staff induction (with Scotland
Director)
 Develop supporting plans for delivery, e.g. marketing and communications
plan (based on marketing and communications strategy).
 Finalise target locations and local partnership agreements
 Work with Living Streets Impact and Evaluation Manager to commission
independent evaluation of the project in line with our project objectives and
outcomes
Project and team management
 Ensure implementation of Walking Connects and other projects, and achieve
project targets and outcomes on time
 Build strong relationships with project partners, acting as a relationship
manager with partner organisations, local authorities and other stakeholders
 Lead and manage a team of coordinators and associates to deliver projects
successfully and professionally with older people and local partners
 Manage project budgets, including profiling quarterly spend, supporting claim
submissions and informing the Scotland Director of any potential overspend
or underspend risks
 Ensure accurate monitoring and evaluation of all activity, including gathering
baseline data
 Ensure timely and accurate reporting of project and financial progress to the
Scotland Director
 Ensure that relevant learning from monitoring and evaluation is fed back to
inform Living Streets work in Scotland and the rest of the UK
 Maintain good liaison with the Communications and Media Manager ensuring
brand guidelines are followed and the project is using and contributing to on
and offline resources effectively
 Lead by example by taking a hands on approach when required and ensure
that the team works flexibly and collaboratively
 Hold regular catch ups and away days with your Project Coordinators to
maintain effective communication, and contribute to the organisation and
delivery of team meetings and away days.
Monitoring and evaluation
 Work with the Impact and Evaluation Manager to ensure that the impact of our
communities projects are robustly measured against the project objectives
and outcomes, including supporting the gathering baseline data and setting
up systems for storing data
 Ensure timely and accurate funder reporting requirements are met, preparing
reports for funders and partners and keeping project management records up
to date



Identify and collect case studies from the project to inform our
communications and campaigns
Contribute to organisational work on the identification and roll out of
environmental barriers and solutions to walking
Contribute to internal and external evaluation of the project.
Policy and communications
 Build strong relationships with stakeholders and ensure effective
communication, so we can influence policy and practice. This will include
establishing a learning network for professionals
 Inform Living Streets lobbying and policy work through ensuring learning from
communities project activities is captured and contributes to policy and
campaign development and practice
 Promote Living Streets’ policy, campaigns and communications work through
project work, where relevant
 Support Project Coordinators to recruit established and/or new groups into
affiliation with Living Streets and develop supporter numbers and campaign
participation, particularly where this contributes to project sustainability.

Be an active contributor to the Scotland team, and Development and Delivery
teams, and attend team meetings
Actively support initiatives that support the Community for Change and
encourage sign ups to Living Streets e-news
Regular out of office hours work will be required as will regular travel within
the UK and occasionally abroad.
Organisation
 Contribute to the management of the organisation and be an active
contributor to staff meetings and internal communications
 Deputise for the Scotland Director in their absence
 Champion the Living Streets corporate brand, messages, campaigns and
communications initiatives to raise the profile and impact of Living Streets
 Support fellow staff and provide internal mentoring and training to others
where appropriate
 Be an ambassador for Living Streets at public-facing events and in all
dealings with partners, funders, wider stakeholders and the general public
 Adhere to Living Streets policies and procedures, working within
communications and wider protocols, maintaining good liaison with other
teams across the organisation
 Ensure the effective delivery of the Living Streets Scotland Strategy and
Living Streets’ Strategic Objectives
 Maintain good liaison with other teams and senior managers in Scotland and
across the UK.
 Undertake other duties from time to time, as requested by the Director of
Living Streets Scotland
NB: Enhanced DBS clearance will be required for this post.

the issues that can affect the walking environment
