Make a Start Game Pre-test Brief Background Health Communication Partnership (HCP) and Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) are developing the “Make a Positive Start Game” to be used in entertaining while educating HIV positive adolescents aged 15 - 19. The game covers a number of themes including: HIV treatment, adherence, prevention of re infection and transmission. Before finalising the development of the game HCP and JCRC would like to arrange a pre-test exercise with selected adolescents in Kampala to establish if they can easily play the game ,whether they understand its contents and information and can easily relate to the game. The pre-test exercise will also seek views from the audiences on how the game can be improved. Pre-test Methodology The mobilized adolescents will be allowed time to play the game after which they will be arranged into focus group discussions and asked questions about the game and its contents. The FGDs will be arranged according to gender .i.e. the male respondents will participate in the male FGD and vice versa. The FGDs will be conducted by the same sex research assistants . The research assistants will be recruited from the pool used by HCP and will be young graduates. Before conducting the FGDs the research assistants will be trained on how to play the game and how to conduct the FGDs. During the training they will also be introduced to the FGD tools. Note: The research assistants will also be involved in playing of the game with the mobilized adolescents. Mobilization of Adolescents The adolescents to participate in the pre-test exercise will be mobilized through HCP partner organization working in the area of HIV/AIDS and these will include, JCRC, Infectious Disease Institute and the Network for Young Positives.
