A. BACKGROUND
As future teacher, we have to know many subject,
one of them is literature. Studying literature is very
important for future teachers because we can improve
our knowledge, our vocabulary, pronunciation, we
can learn the culture of other nation, character.
Literature is identical to language, since literature
uses language to pass information, opinion or ideas,
through the expression of feelings and thought stated
in literary work. Literary works consists of three parts
: they are poetry, prose, and play or drama (Handout,
2010).
In modern era, film is known as a part of literary
works as it is said that drama is a play on TV, theatre
or cinema, the other hand reason why film is
admitted as a development of drama, which
automatically makes film to be possibly called
literary work is that movie is made by using artistic
technique and involves many things related to literary
works.
As future teacher, later in the future the writer should
give much knowledge to build student character. For
example, by explaining the moral value of film, he
can tell his future student that life is never going to be
easy; they need strong will and guts to achieve their
dreams. And they believe everything will be all right.
B. LITERATURE REVIEW
Robert and Jacob (2993:1) say that “Literature means
the compositions that tell stories, dramatize situation,
express emotion, analyze and advocated ideas”.
According to the writer’s experience when attending
class, literature in the narrow sense is a piece of
writing valued as works of art compared to technique
language.
1. The definition of Film
According to Honbry (2003:496) Film is a series
moving picture recorded with sound that tells a story.
ought to live, with the idea of the good and with such
concept right and wrong, good or bad.
2. Elements/Intrinsic value
Intrisic value is a part of Abram’s theory (1990)
which is used for analyzing the literary work, there
are included into the intrinsic value of the film those
are theme, plot, character, setting, point of view.
C. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
In this research the writer used a descriptive
qualitative method which includes analyzing,
describing, explaining, and interpreting the data.
According to MacMillan (2001:395) qualitative
research described and analyzed people’s individual,
and collective social actions, beliefs, thoughts, and
perceptions, MacMillan also says in research in
education that qualitative studied are important for
theory generation, policy, development, practice
improvement, illumination of social issues, and
action stimulus. The declaration about means, that in
qualitative research, we not compare anything.
a. Theme
According to M.H Abrams (1999) the theme is
sometimes used interchangeable with “motif’ but the
term is more, usefully applied on a general concept or
doctrine, whether implicit or asserted, which an
imaginative work is designed to involve and make
persuasive to the reader.
b. Characters
M.H Abram said the characters are the persons
represented in a dramatic or narrative work. Who are
interpreted by the reader as possessing particular
moral, intellectual, and emotional, qualities by
inferences from what the person’s say and their
distinctive ways of saying it – the dialogue – and
from what they do – the action.
c. Plot
According to Kimtafsirah (2011), plot is series of
events it is divided into five stages. Those are:
Exposition, Rising action, Climax, Falling action and
Resolution.
d. Setting
Abram states that the overall setting of a narrative or
dramatic work is the general locate, historical time,
and social circumstances in which its action occurs,
the setting or a single episode or science within the
work is the particular physical location in which it
takes place.
e. Point of view
According to Abrams point of view signifies the way
a story gets told – the mode (or modes) establish by
an author by means of whom the reader is presented
with the character dialogues, actions, setting, and
event which constitute the narrative in a work of
fiction.
3. Definition Moral Value
Pojman (1990:2) say “morality refers to the principle
of conduct of both actual moralities, the best justified
or true moral system”. The writer conclude that
morality refer to the principle that deal with how we
Research Population

groupof people, object or events which researches
wishes to apply the finding of study. The population
of this resarch was 632 dialogues of the film 3 Idiots.
Research Sample
Samples are subjects of people used to represent
populations (Crowl, 1996:15). The sample of this
research was entire populations that were focus on
related to intrinsic value and conclude the moral.
