WAUCONDA CLASSIC TOURNAMENT-2016
Wauconda High School
IHSA rules will apply with the following exceptions:
Beginning a game – each team must have 5 players to begin a game. A 5 minute grace period will be allowed before a forfeit is
recorded. The forfeit score will be 10-0.
Game format – 2 halves - 18 minutes per half – continuous clock – The clock will stop on all whistles for the last 2 minutes of
each half (the clock will not stop if the lead is 15 or more). Halftime is 3 minutes (see below)
Clock stops – on dead balls during the last 2 minutes of each half, and time-outs. The clock will not stop during the last 2
minutes of each half, if the lead is 15 or greater.
Time-outs – 3 time-outs per team per game (30 seconds each) – may be used at any time (Ex. You may save all time-outs for
the last crucial minutes of the game) – time-outs do not carry over into overtime
Overtime – 1 minute – clock stops on all whistles - possession begins with a tip-off – 1 time-out (no carry-overs).
2nd overtime (if necessary) – possession begins with a tip-off – sudden death (1st point scored wins) – NO timeouts.
Pre-game warm-ups – 3 minutes (may be shortened at ref’s discretion)
Half-time – 3 minutes (may be shortened at ref’s discretion)
Pressing – permitted during the last 9 minutes of each half for 5th grade games. All other levels may press the entire game.
No pressing when the lead is greater than 15. 6th and 7th can zone press, but they must play man to man in the front court. 8th
grade can zone press and fall back to man to man or zone.
Defense – Zone defense is not allowed at any level except 8th grade – however, help side defense is allowed
Game ball –shall be provided by the home team (listed first on schedule) - an official men’s basketball will be used for 6th, 7th
and 8th grade. A 28.5 basketball will be used for 5th grade.
Technical/Flagrant/Intentional Fouls – if a coach/player/team is issued a technical/flagrant/intentional foul, the opposing
team will receive two points and the ball. Free throws will not be shot.
Tie Breakers – see “WC 2016 Winning the tournament and tiebreakers”
Winning prizes – All players that win a Championship game will be awarded a t-shirt and a team ball. There will be no
consolation prizes.
ADDITIONAL RULES AND NOTES:
SIGN-IN – One coach from every team must provide a name and email/cell phone number prior to play in case we have to
relay last minute information. Each team will receive two admission bracelets when they initially sign-in.
Uniforms – The team listed first on the schedule will be the HOME team and shall wear a “light” uniform.
SPORTSMANSHIP is a top priority amongst the coaches, players and fans. We appreciate your cooperation.
EJECTIONS – Any player, coach, or fan that is ejected from a game may be suspended for the remainder of the day and may
be suspended from the entire tournament.
Volunteers – Although we will make every effort to have two volunteers for every game (score book and time clock), each
team should be prepared to offer one volunteer (per game).
Concessions – Food and drinks will be available for sale throughout the tournament. Although bottled water is permitted on
the bench for the players, spectators are not allowed to bring food or drinks into the gymnasiums.
Cleanliness – At the conclusion of each game, please make sure that your bench is clean and all of the bottles are properly
disposed of.
