Major Perspectives/ Psychologist Project
VISUAL PROJECT: Devise a visual format, using a poster or standard sized paper that
highlight the 8 perspectives and 15 individuals listed below. The goal of this assignment is to
understand the big picture of psychology. Throughout the year these names and perspectives
will keep appearing so it is important to understand all these perspectives and psychologists.
Directions:
1) First read the History and Approaches chapter in your review book.
2) Next research the 8 perspectives or approaches - Behavioral, Psychoanalytic,
Humanistic, Cognitive, Biological, Evolutionary, Biopscyhosocial and
Sociocultural. Once you understand them research the 15 prominent individuals listed
on the sheet which are conveniently grouped by perspective. Some of these names are
not mentioned in the book-this means you must search for them via the glossary or
internet. Do enough research on the individual so that you understand how they fit into
their perspective. While it is recommended that you gather notes on these people, they
will not be collected.
3) Now it is time to take your information and create a VISUAL presentation that conveys
an understanding of the 8 perspectives and 15 individuals. It is essential that students be
able to gather info and condense it to a much smaller bit of information. Many of you will
be tempted to write pages of notes - this merely shows your ability to copy information
not process it. Choose the most relevant information and capture it in an image or two.
Possible formats include a poster, scrapbook, collage, or something creative. No
PowerPoint’s.
4) You will present your findings from your research and present on one of the approaches
and explain how each psychologist contributed to the approach.
Example: Behavioral perspective: Give an in-depth explanation of what the behavioral approach is and
how it is use. Then explain how each of the psychologists contributed to the approach. Ivan Pavlov for
example appears due to his contributions in the area of learning. His classic experiment with dogs led to
the term classical conditioning, which is a major part of the behavioral perspective. Incorporating that
information into your project might be drawing Ivan Pavlov holding a bell next to a dog. Label Pavlov with
his full name and label the information, in this case classical conditioning. Feel free to use multiple words
to highlight your work but DO NOT write a paragraph explaining the experiment or the term. Your visual
and chosen term should convey YOUR understanding of the individual and his work. A photo of a
psychologist will not suffice as it does not convey his work. However, a photo combined with a visual will
work. Be sure you are researching the correct people and terms -- they must be related to psychology.
Please keep the perspectives separate - don’t group a behaviorist with a humanist. Try to create a theme
for the perspective. If you are drawing challenged you may download images, or cut them out of
magazines, if you cite all sources and attach it to your work. Stick figures belong in elementary school not
in High School Psychology class!

Grading Guidelines
• 10 Illustrations detailing evidence of understanding of each approach, key vocabulary, as well
as the contributions of individual psychologists.
How to lose points - no name, stick figures, missing perspectives, people, or images of
each, no terms, writing or explaining information beyond terms, shallow processing
based on chosen images and format, lateness.
