Francesca Poloni (IBBL) and the ISBER-IBBL Proficiency
Testing (PT) Team win the Biobanking Poster Award for the
PT Program at the 2012 ISBER Annual Meeting
Last week, at the Annual Meeting of the International Society for Biological and Environmental
Repositories (ISBER) in Vancouver, Canada, a poster on the ISBER Proficiency Testing (PT) Program
presented by IBBL Project Manager Francesca Poloni (PhD) won the ISBER Biobanking Poster Award
2012. This prize rewards a collaborative project between IBBL and ISBER, an international not-forprofit educational organisation that aims to harmonize evolving challenges associated with
biobanking and repository organisation. The PT Program allows biorepositories performing quality
control assays or characterisation of biospecimens to assess the accuracy of their testing and to
compare their results with those obtained in other laboratories around the world. The program was
launched in 2011 and was open to any type of laboratory or biorepository in the world. Several
laboratories from Europe and the US have already participated in the first two schemes, ‘DNA
Quantification and Purity’ and ‘RNA Integrity’, and the Program will be extended later this year to
include the ‘Cell Viability’ and ‘Tissue Histology’ schemes.
