Chapter 3
Supraventricular Rhythms II
Atrial Fibrillation
• No P wave you have fibrillatory “f” waves
• Chaotic firing of the atria. No organized
contraction = Quivering.
• Contribution of atria contraction to ventricular
filling is not achieved.
• Randon AV conduction so the QRS is normal.
F waves
• “f” - Fine vs. Coarse
• Normal conduction
to the ventricle.
• Ventricular Rate
• Irregulary irregular ventricular depolarization.
Ventricular Rate – pg. 37
• Slow: Regular R-R?
• Moderate: Regular R-R?
• Fast: Regular R-R?
Atrial Flutter – pg. 36
• Atrial depolarizes in a systematic,
organized manner = sawtooth pattern.
• “F” = sawtooth pattern.
• Atrial Rate may be as high as 300
• Ventricular rate may be regular
• Consistent ratio of F waves cause a 4:1 or
2:1 ratio.
Rate
• Below (figure 3.3 C) atrial rate is 300 and
ventricular rate is 75. Therefor a 4:1
conduction. Fourth F wave is meging with
QRS.
F waves in II, III, aVF – inferior
leads – conduction to the bottom of
the heart.
