Hi everyone. The book I want to introduce is Percy Jackson and the Olympians
(book 5), The Last Olympian, by Rick Riordan. This book is a fantasy-adventure novel
based on Greek mythology. The Last Olympian is the final one of this series. This is my
favourite book and I would like to introduce this wonderful story to you all.
This book’s about Percy Jackson is a demigod (half god, half mortal) whose father is
Poseidon, the god of sea, and he was one of the heroes told in the Great Prophecy. He
faced a war to the Titans and Kronos, that maybe hurt the mortals and he led his friends
to protect Mount Olympus which was in New York as the last defend.
The prophecy is:
A child of the eldest gods
Shall reach sixteen against all odds
To see the world in endless sleep,
The hero's soul, cursed blade shall reap
A single choice shall end his days,
Olympus to preserve or raze.
The title name is called The Last Olympian is because the goddess of the hearth,
Hestia, was the last god stayed in Mount Olympus. Her conversation with Percy Jackson
was the crux to the war in the story. As she gave hints to Percy to choose the right choice
(give Luke the cursed blade or not), Percy finally saved the Mount Olympus.
Actually, the other demigods thought that Percy was the one told in the Great
Prophecy, but the one who the real hero was told in the Prophecy is Luke Castellan, a
23-year-old demigod son of Hermes who was in the side of Titans, but he sacrifices
himself to destroy Kronos at the end of the book.
The reason why I like this book most is because the story is compactness and
amazing! A modern life story mixed with the Greek mythology is a wonderful idea as the
modern life part is near to our real life, we can just imagine the demigods lived in urban
such hard and imagine the scenes in the story.
Also, I admire with Percy Jackson’s brave because he did good tries to stop
Kronos(although it’s not success) and he bathed in the River Styx (which is very
dangerous)in the Underworld to gain Achilles’ power to prevent from getting hurt in the
war to fight and protect his family and the Greek world.
This book is a masterpiece and I hope you all enjoy it a lot.
