This small Montessori Elementary School Building includes two elementary
environments and a community room. Since upper and lower elementary ages
represent one developmental plane, the two environments flow together sharing a
kitchen and solarium. The community room will be used for large group activities and
be available for the community.
This green building incorporates daylighting, passive solar heating, recycled and green
materials (straw bale construction, earthen plaster finish, sealed concrete floors, and a
“cool” metal roof), alternative energy (photovoltaic panels and a wind generator), rain
water collection and energy efficient heat pumps. Energy generation and usage will be
monitored by the students with the goal of creating a zero net energy building.
