THE WEST END IS OPEN FOR BUSINES AT I.S.T No one would argue that here in Tianjin, we are a long way from the theatrical heartland of London’s West End. As such the D.P Theatre course at I.S.T is sponsoring the arrival of the West End in Tianjin. Once a month you can come to the theatre at I.S.T and be treated to a professional production of both contemporary and classic plays, performed by some of the world’s greatest theatre performers. This event is newly developed to meet the needs of our grade 11 and 12 Theatre students. Students studying Theatre as part of the Diploma program are required to see live theatre to help develop their ability to communicate ideas in a variety of ways. With few English-speaking theatre opportunities available in Tianjin, it became necessary to take alternative measures. Digital Theatre came to our rescue by recording professional theatre productions that keep the integrity and live nature of a theatre show, so that we can enjoy an exciting level of creativity and performance. This event is sponsored by the D.P Theatre program; meaning that you do not have to pay anything. Could life be any sweeter? Last month we opened with an original work from Frantic Assembly, one of the world’s leading devising companies. Next Tuesday, September 2, presenting Richard Eyre’s powerful direction of the classic play, “Ghosts.” This play was first staged in the late 1800’s and shocked audiences with his realistic view of life. “Ghosts” tells the story of Mrs. Alving’s growing consciousness of the enduring presence and legacy of the lecherous, alcoholic husband she never loved and of the consequences of pretending that her marriage was a good one. We lighten the mood in November with, ”A Comedy of Errors,” which is a contemporary version of Shakespeare’s well-known comedy, which was designed to be accessible by the young and old alike. There is nothing staid about this version with its street comedy vibe. Play: Ghosts by Henrick Ibsen Running Time: I hour and 37 minutes Genre: Realism When: Tuesday, September 20, 2016 Where: I.S.T Theatre Time: 3:15 – 4:55p.m Contact Chrissie Akov on [email protected] for further information
