Vocabulary Strategy:
Greek and Latin Roots
Many words in English have roots from ancient Greek, Latin, or
other languages. Sometimes Latin or Greek word parts create a
word family, or a group of words with a common feature or pattern.
For example, the Greek root geo means “earth.” The words
geography, geology, geographer, geode, geometry, and geometric
form a word family based on the words’ Greek root geo.
