importance, and commercial development.
Tourism and the Port are the main source of income for the citizens of Constanta.
Constanta is the second European port in terms of area, equipment and volume of
merchandise, it’s a hub between Middle East and Western Europe, and it also
connects to Hungary, Austria, Germany and to Rotterdam through the Danube-Black
Sea Channel.
Constanta also has a huge shipyard for making and reparing ships, with terminals for
exporting grain or temporary stocking oil; the oil will be transferred to one of the
biggest oil refinery in South-Eastern Europe situated in Navodari.
Constanta has over 500 schools including secondary and primary institutions. Some
classes are bi-lingual for the minority student population. Constanta has many
private and state universities, such as “Ovidius” University, an important educational
centre of the city, and also the only Maritime University in Romania.
With it’s mild continental climate, it is ideal for summer vacations. Constanta is
situated on the Black Sea and near the Danube Delta. Some of the most beautiful
scenery, flowers and unique animals in the world can be admired by many foreign
and Romanian tourists.
The Mamaia resort, which is part of Constanta, has a beach that extends 8
kilometers with fine sand and a width of 100 meters. It is the largest seasonal resort
with a capacity to hold thirty thousand people in 2 to 5 stars hotels.
Mamaia has lots of new restaurants with a wide variety of foods, discos and night
clubs, as well as Aqua Magic, the largest water park in South-Eastern Europe. There
are also 8 nautical bases on the sea and lake that offer many activities for tourists
such
us
windsurfing,
nautical skiing. By means of the aerial cable installation named ‘TELEGONDOLE”, the
tourists can admire panoramic views of Mamaia and Black Sea coast 50 meters
above the ground. In the last years, because of the massive investment, Mamaia has
regained her name, “The pearl of the Romanian Sea Side.” It is the preferred spot for
Romanian and foreign tourist alike.
