MODEL “GX2-BDL-MA”
NON WATER-WASH VENTILATOR
GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS
Furnish Gaylord Ventilator Model “GX2-BDL-MA____________” as shown on
plans and in accordance with the following specifications:
GENERAL: Each ventilator shall be a high velocity centrifugal grease extractor
with an air inlet opening parallel to, and above the cooking equipment being
ventilated. Each ventilator shall contain one or more removable “extractor
inserts” with a grease extraction efficiency of 90% when operated at design
specifications. Extractor inserts shall be constructed of stainless steel and
contain full-length, self-draining baffles. Extractors shall be easily removable,
for periodic cleaning, from the floor area immediately in front of the equipment
by utilizing an extractor removal tool. The grease collecting gutter at the bottom
of the extractor housing shall slope to a drain at one end of the ventilator to
a removable stainless steel grease cup. The sloped gutter shall be concealed
by an apron which extends the full length of the hood. The ventilator shall
include a built in a 3" air space at the rear for compliance to NFPA-96 when
mounting against a limited combustible wall. Continuous front and rear
brackets shall be provided to facilitate mounting to the wall and hanging from
the overhead building structure. ❏(Optional) The ventilator shall include
“Custom Air” baffles to reduce the exhaust volume over specific cooking
equipment as indicated on the plans (add suffix “CA” to model number). The
ventilator shall operate at air quantities and static pressure as indicated on
plans.
❏ Ventilator with a Fire Damper (standard equipment) - The ventilator shall
be equipped with a full length fire damper located in the ventilator extractor
plenum between the extractor inserts and the ventilator duct collar.
❏ Thermostatically Operated Fire Damper (standard) - The damper shall
be controlled by an electrically driven actuator, specifically listed for such use
and shall be activated by fail safe thermostat(s) located at the duct collar. Upon
activation, the exhaust and supply fan shall shut off and the damper shall close,
in the direction of air flow, sealing against the front of the plenum and act as
a fire barrier to prevent flame from entering the plenum and duct system. The
damper shall also close each time the exhaust fan is turned off, to prevent
conditioned air from escaping the occupied space via thermal drafts, and then
re-open when the exhaust fan is started. Fire dampers located at the exhaust
duct collar are not acceptable. The ventilator shall be U.L. listed under the
category “Exhaust Hood with Exhaust Damper”. Access doors to reach duct
fire protection nozzles shall not be permitted.
❏ Fuse Link Activated Fire Damper (optional) - (series prefix “GX2FLD”)The damper shall be spring loaded and activated by fuse link(s) located
at the duct collar. Upon activation, the exhaust and supply fan shall shut off
and the damper shall close, in the direction of air flow, sealing against the front
of the plenum and act as a fire barrier to prevent flame from entering the plenum
and duct system. The damper shall be manually reset without the use of tools
and without opening or removing access panels. Dampers located at the
exhaust duct collar are not acceptable. The ventilator shall be listed under the
category “Exhaust Hood with Exhaust Damper.”
❏ Ventilator without Fire Damper (optional) - (series prefix “GX2-ND”) - The
ventilator shall be UL listed under the category “Exhaust Hood without Exhaust
Damper”.
MAKE-UP AIR OPTIONS: The ventilator shall have an air supply plenum, with
duct collar(s) and:
❏ Incorporate registers for front face discharge make-up air. (Add suffix “MAR”
to the model number.)
❏ Incorporate stainless steel perforated panels for front face discharge makeup air. (Add suffix “MAW” to the model number.)
CONSTRUCTION: The ventilator shall be of all stainless steel construction, not
less than 18 gauge, type 304. All exposed surfaces shall be a number 4 finish.
The use of aluminized steel, galvanized steel, or 430 stainless steel is not
acceptable in any part of the ventilator.
ELECTRICAL: The ventilator shall be factory pre-wired to a single connection
point.Ventilators built in multiple sections shall be furnished with coiled flex
conduit for interconnecting sections by applicable trades.
LIGHT FIXTURES: The ventilator shall be equipped with ❏ 100 watt surface
mounted incandescent, ❏150 watt recessed incandescent, ❏ recessed
fluorescent, light fixtures. Light fixtures shall be factory pre-wired to a single
connection point. Ventilators built in multiple sections shall be furnished with
coiled flex conduit for interconnecting sections.
ACCEPTANCE & APPROVALS: The ventilator shall be UL and NSF listed. The
ventilator shall comply with all requirements of NFPA-96, IMC, UMC, BOCA and
SBCCI model codes.
APPLICATION
Wall mounted canopy style for use over all types of equipment where
integral front face discharge make-up air is desired.
FEATURES
• Fire Damper Within Ventilator Plenum
• All Type 304 Stainless Steel
• 90% Grease Extraction Efficiency
• CUL and NSF Listed
• Complies With The IMC, UMC, BOCA and
SBCCI Mechanical Codes
• Fail Safe Damper Control Switch
DESCRIPTION
The Gaylord Model “GX2” Series Ventilator has been tested to UL
Standard 710 and is UL listed under the category “Exhaust Hood with
Exhaust Damper”. The ventilator extracts up to 90% of the grease
by centrifugal force when operated and maintained in accordance with
design specifications. Centrifugal grease extraction is accomplished
by unique, removable stainless steel “extractor inserts” that incorporate a series of horizontal baffles. At the end of the cooking day or at
periodic intervals, the inserts are removed and can be washed either
in a dishwasher or soaked and rinsed off. An extractor removal tool
is available which makes removal of the extractors extremely easy.
The extractor inserts come in two sizes: 15½" (5¼ lbs.) and 19½" (6¾
lbs.). The GX2 series is equipped with a thermostatically activated, or
optional fuse link activated, internally mounted fire damper. The
ventilator is also available without a fire damper, identified by the prefix
“GX2-ND”. The GX2 series can be totally integrated with the “CG3”
water-wash series.

ENGINEERING DATA
The amount of exhaust volume required is dependent upon the type of
cooking equipment and the type and volume of cooking. Refer to the Master
Engineering Data Sheet in the Engineering Data section of the Gaylord
catalog for the charts on determining exhaust volume duct sizes, and static
pressure.
Electrical
A Gaylord stop/start switch, Model C-250, is provided for each exhaust fan.
Refer to Model C-250 specification sheet in the Control Cabinet section of
the Engineering Catalog for specifications and electrical details. Lights to be
on separate circuit, 120 volt standard, 220/240 volt optional.
