Seismology Matters
[Yo… you know the song]
Seismology is the study of earthquakes
The tremor or the temblor or the shock when the earth shakes
Rupture, rebound, snap back into place
Respect for the changes Mother Earth makes
Seismology is the science of studying earthquakes [Sing the tune]
and seismic waves [You know the song]
Earthquakes occur mostly at the edges of tectonic plates
at faults where the Earth’s crust breaks
[You know the song… now hit it]
The Richter scale measures magnitude
An earthquake of 4 can be felt by most humans
2 means small and 7 means huge
When earthquakes hit the best thing to do
is hide under cover in the center of the room
‘cos buildings are often designed to stand through these shakes
And these quakes occur on the moon and the sun too
You know the song, now sing the tune
Seismology is the science of studying earthquakes
and seismic waves
Rocks stretch and squeeze like a spring released during an earthquake
And seismic waves are body waves or surface waves
