Solar System Report Guidelines May 2017
Dear Families,
Please review the three report choices with your child and help him/her select one.
Constellation
Select a constellation. (Use reference books and/or web sites.)
Research the meaning, story, and/or history behind the particular constellation.
Write a minimum of 7-9 sentences about it.
Draw/Create a picture of it.
Planet
Research one of the eight planets or dwarf planets. (Use reference books and/or web
sites)
Write a minimum of 7-9 sentences about it.
Draw/Create a picture/model of it. (Remember to make the planet very large.)
The 8 Planets (+ Pluto)
Use reference books, encyclopedias, and/or web sites.
Draw, color, and label each of the 8 (or 9) planets in order from the sun.
Write a minimum of 5 sentences about each planet (40+ sentences total).
Note: Oral presentation is limited to one planet.
Reminders:
Make this a pleasurable experience for your child as well as an educational one. Encourage
your child to write the facts in his/her own words and use his/her own printing. Do not
allow your child to copy entire sentences from books/web pages. Your child will be
presenting his/her report to the class so he/she will want to practice reading his/her report
prior to presenting it to the class.
